Residents and mariners in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) are being advised to prepare for a breezy weekend as the Atlantic High Pressure System remains the dominant weather feature across the islands.
According to the latest 72-hour outlook issued by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services on Friday, July 17th, the system is currently generating moderate to fresh north-easterly trade winds ranging from 25 to 35 km/h. Forecasters warn that wind speeds could surge to approximately 40 km/h through Friday night.
A key concern for the upcoming days is the presence of Saharan dust. While Saturday will see slight to moderate haze, a specific weather advisory has been issued for Sunday, July 19th. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions as the dust is expected to reduce visibility and impact air quality across the archipelago. By Monday, conditions are expected to return to a slight or moderate haze.
Small-craft operators and sea-bathers are being told to exercise caution, particularly through Saturday morning. The Meteorological Services has issued a marine advisory due to above-normal swells and gusty winds.
Sea conditions in open water are currently classified as moderate. On the western side of the islands, swells are expected to range between 1.0m (3ft) and 1.5m (5ft), while the eastern coast will experience higher swells between 1.8m (6ft) and 2.5m (8ft). These elevated sea levels are expected to persist through Sunday before subsiding on Monday.
