The boys of Team SVG have officially established themselves as the premier squash talent in the region after a historic performance at the 2026 Caribbean Junior Squash Championships (Junior CASA) in Tortola. Entering the tournament as the #1 seed, the talented squad lived up to expectations by clinching St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ first-ever Caribbean team title.
The path to the championship began with a series of dominant individual performances. Zavin Garrick (Under 11) and Jayden George (Under 17) both secured gold medals, while Jaydon Williams earned a bronze medal in the Under 19 category. The momentum continued in the doubles competition, where the Vincies took home a silver medal. Other notable individual successes included Aiden DeFreitas winning the Under 17 Plate, Savante’ Padmore taking the Under 13 Plate, and Ethan Webster winning the Under 15 consolation.
In the team event, SVG swept through the group stage with decisive victories over Jamaica, Barbados, and Guyana. After a 4-2 win against the Cayman Islands in the semifinals, the Vincies faced defending champions Guyana in a high-stakes rematch for the title.
The final showdown saw Zavin Garrick deliver an early blow with a commanding straight-sets win. Jayden George and Jaydon Williams followed suit, dismissing their opponents in straight games to put the team on the brink of victory. Finally, Aiden DeFreitas sealed the historic win with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Shiloh Asregado, etching Team SVG’s name into the record books.
The overall success of the contingent was bolstered by the Girls team, comprised of Caeli George, Naira Skye-John, and Ciara George, who finished in 9th place. Combined, these efforts earned St. Vincent and the Grenadines a 3rd place finish in the overall team standings.
Coach Jules Snagg and the association expressed gratitude to their sponsors, including the SVG Olympic Committee, Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Minister of Sports, Hon. Kaschaka Cupid, for their support. Looking ahead, the team is already preparing for their 2027 title defense, while Jayden George will travel to Canada to compete in the World Junior Squash Championships from July 20-31, 2026.
