St Vincent Ministry of Agriculture, has commenced the distribution of thousands of sacks of fertilizer donated by the Government of Morocco to support the nation’s agricultural sector. As of July 17, 2026, the initiative has reached close to 2,000 farmers across nine agricultural districts.

The distribution efforts began on Wednesday at the Wallilabou Agricultural Station and expanded on Thursday to include the Langley Park and La Croix Palletization Centers. On Friday, the ministry scheduled further distribution in Kingstown, Colonaire, Langley Park, and La Croix. This widespread effort aims to provide essential nutrients for a variety of crops, with a specific focus on vegetable and root crop production.

Karomo Browne, the Acting Agricultural Diversification Officer, highlighted that different types of fertilizer are being provided to meet specific farming needs. A container of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) is being dedicated to ginger farmers as part of a strategy to boost the country’s ginger production. Additionally, Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), which is high in phosphorus, is being recommended for root crops to be used during the initial stages of planting to boost vegetative growth.

The largest portion of the shipment—nearly 4,000 sacks—consists of NPS fertilizer, which contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulphur. This blend is considered ideal for a wide range of vegetables, including legumes, onions, and members of the Solanaceae and Brassica families, such as tomatoes, sweet peppers, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.

The ministry is also ensuring that farmers in the Grenadines receive their share of the donation, with 63 sacks allocated for Bequia, 43 for Mayreau, and 87 for Union Island. In total, the ministry will distribute 4,766 sacks of fertilizer to farmers and various industry stakeholders throughout the country.
