SVG Welcomes Suriname Airways on Maiden Flight
St. Vincent and the Grenadines has welcomed Suriname Airways on its maiden flight to SVG, with the aircraft now serving as the dedicated aircraft for the 2026 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), transporting players and tournament personnel across the region.
The aircraft is being provided through a wet-lease arrangement facilitated by Mile High Travels, which also holds the contractual agreement for the CPL charter service. The arrival represents not only an important operational partnership for the CPL tournament, but also an opportunity for St. Vincent and the Grenadines to explore expanded charter connectivity during peak travel periods and beyond.
Chief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, Shafia London, said the maiden flight represents an important step in the destination’s efforts to develop an “always-on” tourism economy.
“This is about much more than moving CPL players across the region. While this is a charter specifically supporting the tournament, it gives us an opportunity to demonstrate the potential for continued charter operations during our busy season, particularly as we strengthen our events calendar next year and work towards creating an always-on tourism season.”
London said the new relationship also creates an opportunity to explore connectivity beyond the Caribbean.
“We are planting a seed here for greater connectivity with Central and South America. There is interest in travelling to St. Vincent and the Grenadines from these markets, and we welcome the possibilities that this creates. What begins with a dedicated CPL aircraft can potentially open the door to new visitors, new markets and new opportunities for tourism.”
The dedicated aircraft will support the movement of CPL players and tournament personnel across participating destinations, while its presence in SVG provides an opportunity to showcase the country’s readiness to accommodate specialized charter operations.
The Tourism Authority also views the development as aligned with its broader strategy to leverage sports tourism through culture and celebrations; as key drivers of visitor arrivals, while expanding air access and creating compelling reasons to visit St. Vincent and the Grenadines throughout the year.
