PRIME MINISTER FRIDAY LEADS DELEGATION ON OFFICIAL VISIT TO TAIWAN
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Godwin Friday departed the state on Sunday, August 9, 2026, leading a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan). The visit marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, a partnership originally established on August 15, 1981.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on Tuesday, August 11, where he will be formally received with military honours. A primary highlight of the diplomatic mission is a scheduled audience with H.E. Dr. Lai Ching-te, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), to discuss deepening cooperation and the longstanding bond between the two countries.
The visit also includes a dedicated engagement with the Vincentian diaspora. Prime Minister Friday will host a luncheon for the Vincentian community in Taiwan, featuring a keynote address and a question-and-answer session.
The mission carries a strong economic mandate intended to support the government’s priorities for job creation and growth. Key activities include:
- An investor roundtable connecting the Vincentian delegation with prospective Taiwanese investors.
- Official engagements focused on agriculture, the blue economy, and technology.
- Discussions regarding sustainable development.
Prime Minister Friday emphasized the forward-looking nature of the trip, stating, “Forty-five years is an important milestone, but this visit is also about looking forward. We value the friendship that has developed between our countries, and we now have an opportunity to build on that foundation in ways that create greater opportunities for our people”.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by a delegation that includes:

- Ambassador Kevin Hope, Ambassador for Finance, Climate and Investment.

During the Prime Minister’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Major St. Clair Leacock will act as Prime Minister. The delegation is expected to return to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
