The Arnos Vale Ground in Saint Vincent hosted a pair of explosive encounters that both culminated in final-ball finishes. From historic bowling milestones to heroic individual batting displays, the venue provided a thrilling backdrop for the start of the tournament.
The 2026 season began on August 8 with a “ball thriller” between the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons and the Jamaica Kingsmen. Chasing a target of 168, the Falcons appeared to be cruising until the final over, needing only six runs for victory. However, the match swung back toward the Kingsmen when Hunain Shah claimed two wickets in consecutive deliveries, removing both Jahmar Hamilton and Usama Mir on the boundary.
With the result hanging in the balance on the final delivery, Shamar Springer managed to scramble back for a decisive second run following a misfield at long-on by Kingsmen captain Rovman Powell, sealing a dramatic win for the Falcons.

- Alzarri Joseph (Falcons): Led the bowling attack with an international-quality spell of 3/34.

- Reeza Hendricks (Kingsmen): Made an impact on his CPL debut, scoring 42 from 25 balls, including 28 runs in a single over.
Drama returned to Arnos Vale on August 10 as the Saint Lucia Kings launched their campaign with a narrow four-run victory over the Falcons. Andries Gous was the star of the first innings, smashing a superb 82 to power the Kings to a competitive total. The Kings’ momentum was briefly halted by a 40-minute rain delay with three overs remaining, but late contributions from McKenny Clarke and Shadley van Schalkwyk ensured a challenging target.
The Falcons’ response started explosively through Rakheem Cornwall, who hit five boundaries in just 13 balls. Earlier in the day, Cornwall also reached a personal milestone by taking his 50th CPL wicket, bowling Ackeem Auguste. The Falcons looked well-placed at 109/2 at the halfway mark following a 56-run partnership between Evin Lewis and Tim Robinson.
However, a middle-order collapse and a sluggish 10 runs from 20 balls by Jahmar Hamilton allowed the Kings back into the contest. With 13 runs needed from the final over, Matthew Forde held his nerve for the Kings. Although Springer hit a boundary to leave five runs needed off the last ball, Forde forced a top-edge that was caught by Darren Nedd to secure the win.
While the Arnos Vale matches provided the bulk of the early drama, the defending champions, Trinbago Knight Riders, also began their title defense successfully on August 9. They secured a rain-affected 19-run victory over the Saint Kitts & Nevis Patriots via the DLS method, powered by Sunil Narine’s clinical bowling figures of 3/7.
The CPL action is set to continue as the teams move to Saint Lucia for the next leg of the tournament.
