The capital city is shrouded in grief today as the final farewell service for Brianna Veira is held at Victoria Park. Family, friends, and members of the public have gathered at the park to pay their last respects to the young student whose life was cut short far too soon.
The somber proceedings today follow a devastating motor vehicle accident on July 29, 2026, which claimed the life of the twelve-year-old student.
The fatal incident occurred in Bequia, after which Brianna was rushed to a hospital on mainland St. Vincent for emergency care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, they were unable to save her.
The loss has left a profound impact on the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown (SJCK) community, where Brianna was a “valued member”. In a heartfelt tribute following the accident, Principal Sr. Martha Sebastien expressed the “profound sadness and heavy hearts” felt by the school community.
“As a school community, we mourn together, pray together, and support one another,” the principal stated, urging students and staff to care for each other with compassion and kindness during this time of grief.
The school’s tribute concluded with a prayer for her eternal rest, stating, “May Brianna rest in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father, and may perpetual light shine upon her”.
