The 24th Annual Bequia Basketball Tournament delivered a thrilling night of hoops on Wednesday, August 19, featuring high-scoring offenses and massive individual performances across multiple divisions.
In the First Division, the East Blazers continued their dominant offensive form, putting on an absolute showcase to defeat Smokin’ Aces 96-71. The story of the night was Jermaine John, who put on a masterclass by dropping an outstanding 53 points. John also stuffed the stat sheet with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals.
Smokin’ Aces put up a fight, led by Elroy Joseph’s impressive performance of 26 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. Both John and Joseph are national basketball players representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG); John recently played for the Men’s Senior National Basketball Team at the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers in Guyana, while Joseph represented SVG with the U23 3×3 National Team in Tortola. Their presence brings top-tier national experience to the Bequia court, giving younger and aspiring athletes a chance to compete alongside the country’s best.
The Second Division action was equally intense, characterized by the physical and competitive play that has defined the division. The Golden Knights secured a hard-fought 63-52 victory over Apex Elite, powered by a monstrous double-double from Cassius Joseph. Joseph dominated the paint, racking up 23 points, 24 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Apex Elite’s efforts were spearheaded by Xontea Shortte, who registered 19 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the competitive matchup.
The U12 Division saw rising stars showcase their skills in tightly contested games. The Falcons narrowly defeated the Seagulls in an 11-10 nail-biter, led by Kenolyi Ollivierre’s 5 points. Cavani Browne was the high scorer for the Seagulls with 4 points.
In the other youth matchup, the Grinches defeated the Ninjas 14-6. Symon Miller led the offense for the Grinches with 10 points, including two crucial 3-point shots. His brother, Solomon Miller, was the top scorer for the Ninjas with 3 points.
