Canada is placing a greater emphasis on document accuracy, identity verification, and the credibility of travel plans for Caribbean nationals navigating the country’s visa system in 2026.
The updated focus is drawing particular attention to five Caribbean nations, all of which are members of the region’s citizenship-by-investment (CBI) community. These countries include Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Canadian immigration authorities have made an important distinction: Canada has not announced a new visa ban or a country-specific verification regime targeting these five nations. Instead, the heightened requirements reflect a broader, global strengthening of immigration screening and identity checks designed to enhance security across the board.
For Dominica specifically, Canada’s official rules continue to provide a pathway for citizens to apply for visitor visas, and the Canadian government is continuing to process applications. Dominican citizens submitting documents by mail will have their applications processed by the Canadian High Commission in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The five countries identified under the spotlight are facing increased international scrutiny regarding their CBI programs, which allow foreign nationals to obtain passports through investment. This scrutiny extends to the verification of applicants who acquire passports through these programs.
Accordingly, Canadian immigration officials are focusing heavily on whether supplied information can be verified. Reports indicate that Canada’s approach centers on “application precision, transparency and stronger verification standards”. Under these stricter guidelines, mistakes, missing information, or inconsistencies between documents are highly likely to prompt additional questions or result in processing delays.
