The Department of Diaspora Affairs has successfully facilitated the swift customs clearance and duty-free release of a substantial charitable shipment aimed at supporting educational development in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The shipment, donated by Dede’s Bright Futures Foundation, arrived to support Vincentian children and local communities.
Dede’s Bright Futures Foundation is a Montreal-based charitable organization founded and owned by a Vincentian national. Through the direct intervention and active facilitation of the Department of Diaspora Affairs, the foundation was able to successfully clear customs and avoid additional customs duties, ensuring that 100% of the donated value went directly to the intended beneficiaries.
The charitable shipment consisted of more than 60 high-quality school bags fully stocked with essential school supplies and vital educational materials. On Friday, August 21, 2026, these materials were distributed directly to students at Clare Valley Government School and Questelles Government School, equipping young learners with the tools necessary for their academic success in the upcoming school term.
Following the successful distribution of the educational supplies, representatives from Dede’s Bright Futures Foundation paid a formal courtesy call to the Department of Diaspora Affairs on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The delegation met with Ms. Sharon Jones, Senior Advisor at the Department, to express their profound appreciation for the government’s swift, hands-on support in navigating the clearance process. The foundation’s representatives included:
- Mrs. Desria Frederick-Wilson, Founder of Dede’s Bright Futures Foundation and a Vincentian national residing in Canada.
- Ms. Leslieanna Joseph, the organization’s dedicated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines-based Liaison Officer.
The Department of Diaspora Affairs extended its sincere gratitude to the Office of the Director General within the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for its vital, cooperative assistance in resolving and expediting the clearance and release of the charitable items.
