St. Vincent and the Grenadines Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves convened a high-profile meeting with Jamaica’s Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Floyd Green, on Monday, August 24, to address pressing regional issues including food security and agricultural coordination.
The meeting, which took place in Kingston, represents a concerted effort to foster collaboration across the Caribbean in response to shared agricultural challenges and to streamline regional strategies.
Gonsalves was accompanied during the discussions by Mr. Phil Hogan of Ireland, who is currently a candidate for the Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The inclusion of Hogan highlights the international significance of the talks and underscores the strategic coordination occurring between Caribbean leadership and global agricultural bodies.
Reports obtained by the St. Vincent Times indicate that the discussions were highly fruitful and cordial, with all parties demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing regional integration and development.
Gonsalves is a prominent figure in Caribbean politics, having served as the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for a historic 25-year tenure.
His government lost power in November of 2025, after which Gonsalves assumed his current role as the Leader of the Opposition.
His long-standing experience in regional governance added significant weight to the bilateral engagement in Kingston.
