ELECTRICIAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED BURGLARY, KIDNAPPING AND OTHER OFFENCES
On August 30, 2026, police arrested and charged Lennox Shortte, a 44-year-old Electrician of Belair, with the offences of aggravated burglary, assault causing actual bodily harm, threatening language, kidnapping and taking a conveyance without lawful authority.
According to investigations, on August 27, 2026 and August 28, 2026, the accused allegedly entered the dwelling house of a 66-year-old retiree of Brighton as a trespasser while armed with a weapon of offence, namely a cutlass.
He was further charged with assault causing actual bodily harm complainant by beating the complainant about the body with a cutlass and his hands, causing her injuries.
Furthermore, he was charged with maliciously uttering threatening words to the same complainant by stating “I told you I was gonna get you, you see how easy it is?, you gonna die tonight”.
Lastly, he was charged with kidnapping the same complainant without her consent.
The accused was also charged with using Motor Vehicle P-3162 without the consent of the owner or any other lawful authority.
The offences were committed in Brighton. Shortte appeared before the Serious Offences Court on August 31, 2026, where he was not required to enter a plea, as the matters are indictable. He was granted bail in the sum of $10,000.00 ECC with one surety.
He was ordered not to have any contact with the complainant and to report to the Calliaqua Police Station every Monday and Wednesday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents, and stop notices were placed at all ports of entry and exit. The matters were adjourned to September 5, 2026.
