As Haiti faces violence, political instability and deepening social divisions, Haitian faith leaders, lawmakers, scholars and peace advocates will convene for a virtual forum examining how religious communities can help build a culture of peace and nonkilling.
Titled “Peace, Nonkilling & Religion: How Can Religious Communities Build a Culture of Peace and Nonkilling?” the discussion will explore how religious leadership, education and community engagement can address the conditions that contribute to violence while advancing reconciliation, social cohesion and nonviolent conflict transformation.
Panelists will consider practical ways faith communities can move beyond calls peace and become active partners in rebuilding trust, strengthening communities and creating hope for Haiti’s future.

Religious institutions remain influential sources of leadership, trust and community support throughout Haiti and across the Haitian diaspora. Organizers say these communities can play an essential role in challenging cultures of violence, facilitating dialogue and helping Haitians envision a peaceful future.
The forum will bring together perspectives from religion, government, education, economics and conflict-resolution studies to examine how faith communities can contribute to lasting peace through practical, community-centered action.
