The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF) continued its commitment to youth development throughout the month of August with a series of basketball camps designed to introduce young athletes to the fundamentals of the game while encouraging greater participation in the sport.

The month of activities began on August 5 and 6 with a special girls’ basketball camp at the New Montrose Hard Court, led by former Vincentian WNBA player Sancho Lyttle. The camp was specifically designed to encourage more girls to take an interest in basketball, providing participants with an opportunity to develop their skills while learning from one of the country’s most accomplished basketball players.

Following the girls’ camp, the SVGBF hosted two week-long basketball camps for both boys and girls, beginning Monday, August 10 at the New Montrose Hard Court and continuing Monday, August 17 at the Chili Hard Court in Georgetown.

The camps brought together multiple coaches from across St. Vincent and the Grenadines, creating an environment where young players could learn, develop and enjoy the sport. Participants were introduced to key basketball fundamentals, including catching and passing, dribbling, shooting, and teamwork.

Beyond developing technical skills, the camps placed emphasis on discipline, cooperation, confidence and the importance of working together as a team.

The SVGBF views youth development as a critical part of the continued growth of basketball in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. By creating opportunities for young athletes to learn the game from experienced coaches and players, the Federation is working to establish a strong foundation for the next generation of Vincentian basketball talent.

The Federation also recognises the important role that coaches, volunteers, parents and communities play in supporting youth participation and looks forward to expanding its grassroots development initiatives in the future.
