St. Vincent and the Grenadines is among several Caribbean nations slated to receive a new U.S. diplomatic envoy following the White House’s nomination of Kimberly Greenwood as ambassador.
In addition to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the official nomination designates Greenwood to serve as ambassador to Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, and Grenada.
The 59-year-old nominee is a former Miss Tennessee USA who worked for 18 years within the Miss Universe organization, an entity previously owned by President Donald Trump. Greenwood currently serves as the executive director of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA state pageants across Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia.
Following the announcement, Greenwood reacted to the nomination on Instagram, writing: “I was raised to believe that when your country calls you to serve, you show up with gratitude, humility, and your whole heart. That is exactly what I intend to do.”
Greenwood is married to country singer Lee Greenwood, best known for the song “God Bless the U.S.A.” Her husband has been active in Republican causes since the 1980s, performing his signature anthem at campaign rallies for George H.W. Bush in 1988, at the 2024 Republican National Convention, and at multiple events for Trump.
Kimberly Greenwood noted in July that the couple originally met while on a USO Tour, connecting their personal history directly to military service. “Really, our beginning of our relationship started with patriotism and serving our military,” she stated. “And that’s what we’ve done for our entire time together.”
