A Vincentian viral dancehall songwriter and artist has issued a public video apology to Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday and grieving families in the wake of a tragic mass shooting in Green Hill that left four people dead and four others wounded.
The community of Green Hill in central Kingstown was thrown into shock on Friday night, September 25, 2026, when gunshots erupted shortly before 10:30 p.m. Responding police officers arrived to find a deadly scene: Two deceased individuals were lying on the public road. One deceased female was located inside a vehicle parked on the road and one deceased individual was found on adjacent property.
Following the shooting, an audio track containing explicit gang and gun violence references began circulating widely on social media.
The audio track consists of an aggressive performance featuring street slang, violent threats, references to gunmen, and target elimination, and called on one (Friday) to free (Smith Don).
In response to the growing public reaction, the songwriter and recording artist released a video statement offering an explicit apology:
“I am the dance artist and songwriter that sang the song that is going viral. I want to publicly apologize to Dr. Godwin Friday. I meant no harm or any form of disrespect when I said the name of the song. Most importantly, I want to apologize to the families that mourned their loved ones… I’m singing based off of social media posts and news reports.”
Adding to the violence, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Brenton Smith disclosed that a separate shooting occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, in the Fair Hall area, leaving a young man injured.
Police cautioned the public against speculating on whether the Fair Hall incident is connected to the Green Hill massacre, noting that investigators are relying strictly on physical evidence.
As of the latest police update, no arrests have been made in connection with the Green Hill shooting. Authorities have issued an urgent call for anyone with CCTV footage, video recordings, photographs, or tips to contact police hotlines.
