A midnight confrontation at an 18th birthday party erupted into a mass shooting early Sunday morning at Carolyn Crayton Park in Georgia, leaving 12 teenagers injured—two of them critically.
Deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to Carolyn Crayton Park at approximately 12:06 a.m. following reports of gunfire near the skatepark area. According to investigators, a group celebrating an 18th birthday party exchanged words with a second group gathered across the street. The dispute quickly escalated when individuals from both groups drew firearms and opened fire on each other.
The victims range in age from 17 to 19 years old, comprising five 17-year-old males, four 18-year-old males, two 18-year-old females, and a 19-year-old male who sought medical care Sunday afternoon. Two of the victims—a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male—were listed in critical but stable condition, while the remaining 10 victims are in stable condition.
As deputies responded to the scene, emergency alerts notified law enforcement that victims were arriving at a local medical facility in personal vehicles. An influx of vehicles carrying victims, family members, and friends flooded the medical facility grounds, prompting hospital staff to tape off the area and place the emergency room on lockdown.
Deputies towed seven vehicles to the crime lab for forensic examination, including four used to transport victims to the hospital and three left at the park. Investigators also brought 10 witnesses to the Criminal Investigation Division for formal interviews.
“This is a horrific situation in our community, and our investigators are working tirelessly,” Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said in a statement.
