Trough system to bring showers, thunderstorms this weekend

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services issued a 72-hour weather outlook at noon on Friday, October 2, 2026, advising residents, mariners, and small craft operators of unsettled weather conditions and rising sea swells over the weekend.

According to Meteorological Forecaster Gregory Cato, an approaching atmospheric trough is anticipated to bring occasional cloudy skies, intermittent showers, and possible isolated thunderstorms across the islands through Friday night.

Conditions are expected to become more pleasant by mid-afternoon on Saturday, October 3, although skies will remain occasionally cloudy and breezy at times with a few showers and possible thunderstorms before turning partly cloudy.

Weather conditions are forecast to deteriorate again on Sunday afternoon, October 4, becoming cloudy and breezy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. A yellow Weather Advisory urging citizens to exercise caution has been issued for Sunday. On Monday, October 5, conditions are expected to settle into partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by breezy conditions and occasional isolated showers.

The Met Service noted that no significant intrusion of Saharan dust haze is expected during this forecast period.

Moderate to fresh trade winds of approximately 20 to 30 km/h are currently crossing the islands from the east-southeast. Winds are projected to shift to the east-northeast on Saturday before increasing slightly to around 35 km/h starting Sunday.
