Addressing dignitaries at the Double 10 National Day reception, His Excellency Sir Stanley Kendrick John, GCMG KC, Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, commended the Republic of China (Taiwan) as a global beacon of democracy, technological ingenuity, and social progress.

Delivering his formal address alongside Lady John, the Governor General extended warm greetings to Taiwanese Ambassador Her Excellency Fiona Fan, Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, members of the cabinet, the judiciary, diplomatic corps, and senior public officials. Sir Stanley emphasized that Taiwan’s 115th National Day—commemorating the 1911 Wuchang Uprising that brought an end to imperial dynasty rule—serves as an opportune moment to honor Taiwan’s evolution into a world standard for progressive governance and technical excellence.

Sir Stanley highlighted the historic significance of Double 10 Day, noting that Taiwan’s diplomatic missions and economic offices across the globe join international partners in celebrating this monumental anniversary.

He affirmed that St. Vincent and the Grenadines shares a deep alignment of core principles with Taiwan, emphasizing their mutual commitment to democratic governance, free institutions, social justice, and equality before the law.

“This occasion provides us with an opportunity to recognize your progressive and enlightened society, which has become an international benchmark for democracy, innovation, technology, economic development, and global cooperation,” Sir Stanley stated. He added that the annual commemoration serves to further deepen bilateral collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and friendship between both nations.

Connecting Taiwan’s milestones to St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ own celebration of 47 years of independence during the month of October, the Governor General outlined SVG’s constitutional vision to chart sustainable national development. He stressed that St. Vincent seeks to harness scientific and technological resources, combined with the creativity of its citizens, to uplift all Vincensians—especially the poor and vulnerable.

Sir Stanley pointed to Taiwan as a primary inspirational model for small island states striving to fulfill ambitious economic goals:

Technological Supremacy: Taiwan’s global dominance in high-tech manufacturing—exemplified by its position as the leading global manufacturer of semiconductor microchips—demonstrates the transformative impact of strategic innovation.

National Discipline & Industry: The pervasive discipline, industriousness, and dedication of the Taiwanese people offer a clear blueprint for national achievement.

Vibrant Democracy: Taiwan’s stellar democratic practices prove that small nations can achieve stability and world-class growth while preserving fundamental freedoms.

Closing his address, Governor General Sir Stanley John offered sincere congratulations on behalf of the government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, expressing unity and best wishes for Taiwan’s continued prosperity.

“Through the manifestations of your democratic practices, your stellar accomplishments in technology as exemplified by being the leading manufacturer of semiconductor chips globally, and in the characteristic pervasive discipline and industry of your people, the Republic of China presents a shining example of how a relatively small country should pursue and achieve those desired goals,” Sir Stanley declared. “May our bonds of friendship endure to the mutual benefit of our two countries”.
