Large Language Models (LLMs) and other neural networks are changing the way we write, interact with our phones and computers, get work done, code, and live our lives. The entire ecosystem around them is also rapidly and radically reshaping the world’s economies, career paths and opportunities.
What is going on inside an LLM? How are they trained? How can we use them programmatically? Are we dependent on others for LLM access?
We are launching a series of courses will cover these questions and related topics in technical detail – theoretically and practically. The courses are aimed at developers living in or affiliated with SVG (and the Eastern Caribbean) with the aim of building local AI knowledge capacity.
There will be 5 courses covering topics from: the components of neural networks, training neural networks, using neural networks and hosting and serving neural networks. The courses will run from November 2026 to May 2027. Each course will consist of 4 sessions – 1 session per week. Each session would run on Saturdays from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM (SVG time), but sessions will be recorded and made available throughout the course. Queries and help will also be available throughout the course.
Each course would cost EC 50, payable by the second week/session of each course. Discounts available for persons doing 3 or more courses.
The course is likely to be most beneficial to those with a background in Computer Science, though interested persons can sign up and attend the first session to decide for themselves. Participants will need a computer with a stable internet connection.
The course will be facilitated by Vincentian Machine Learning Scientist/Engineer Gamal Crichton, who has worked in FinTech companies in London in AI roles for over five years, with a PhD in Natural Language Processing from Cambridge University, as well as Masters and Undergraduate degrees in Computer Science from UWI Cave Hill. At home, he has worked with the Community College as a Software Engineer and Lecturer.
Interested persons can sign up for and get more details on each course via this page.
