Weak unstable atmospheric conditions will bring occasional cloudy skies, pockets of moderate to heavy showers, and isolated thunderstorms across St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the next 72 hours, according to the midday weather outlook released Sunday by Meteorological Forecaster Joan McDonald of the SVG Meteorological Services.

Residents across the islands are advised to remain alert as unstable weather persists. Atmospheric conditions are expected to shift slightly by mid-week, with a thin film or slight haze becoming noticeable across the region by Wednesday.

Wind speeds across the country are forecast at a gentle to moderate 15 to 25 km/h, with wind directions varying between northeast and southeast in localized areas. Winds are expected to strengthen temporarily to around 30 km/h during Sunday night and early Monday morning.

In open waters, sea conditions remain slight to moderate, with swell heights measuring 0.5 to 1.2 meters (1.5 to 4 feet) west of the islands and 1.5 to 1.8 meters (5 to 6 feet) to the east.

However, forecasters warn of incoming northerly swells that present hazards for mariners and coastal visitors. Northerly swells are expected along the western coast on Monday, before spreading to both the eastern and western sides of the islands by late Tuesday and Wednesday. Small-craft operators and sea-bathers are cautioned to exercise vigilance against choppy seas and breaking wave action.
