Law enforcement investigators in St. Vincent are reportedly closing in on the perpetrator or perpetrators responsible for the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old student Tafari Browne.

Browne succumbed to his injuries on October 12th after being stabbed multiple times. In an interview with SVGTV News, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of crime, Brenton Smith, expressed strong confidence that law enforcement will bring those responsible to justice.

While no formal arrests have been made, ACP Smith disclosed that police have brought in several individuals for questioning and subsequently discharged them pending further investigation.

Describing the case as one that is “very dear to the officers,” ACP Smith condemned the brutal nature of the crime, stating that stabbing an individual multiple times demonstrates a troubling lack of respect for human life and livelihood.

Although ACP Smith declined to provide a specific timeline for charges, he expressed full confidence in the law enforcement team. He emphasized that officers from the Major Crime Unit, supported by police intelligence across ranks and assistance from the general public, are actively pursuing leads to solve the case.

The tragedy comes amid broader concerns regarding violent crime across the nation. ACP Smith lamented the profound grief and suffering endured by families who have lost loved ones to homicides across St. Vincent.

According to police figures, St. Vincent has recorded 42 homicides to date, 39 of which have been officially classified as murders.
