Moving beyond traditional sun-and-sand marketing, St. Vincent and the Grenadines has unveiled an aggressive, multi-channel international tourism campaign under the new destination banner, “Set Your Spirit Free”.

Speaking at a morning press conference, Minister of Tourism Dr. Kishore Shallow warned that regional competitors are investing heavily and being strategic, leaving SVG no choice but to accelerate its marketing efforts to exceed regional rivals.

“Other countries, whether here in the Caribbean or throughout the rest of the world, are not standing still and waiting on St. Vincent and the Grenadines to catch up,” Shallow emphasized.

The rollout begins November 1st with significant international distribution partnerships.

SVGTA Chief Executive Officer Shafia London detailed major travel agreements already secured:

In-Flight Global Advertising: St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ new brand identity will broadcast on in-flight seatback screens across Air Canada’s global fleet beginning November 1st, followed by Virgin Atlantic aircraft on November 15th.

Regional Travel Networks: The authority has partnered with InterCaribbean Airways to capture intra-regional Caribbean travelers.

Tier-1 Media Placements: Agreements have been signed for editorial and advertising coverage across National Geographic, The Associated Press, The Daily Mail, The Independent, Sailing Weekly, and Compass Magazine.

Overseas Representation: SVGTA has revamped its international operating models, retaining travel-trade specialist agencies Palmer & Partners in the UK and Vox in Canada.

London explained that the rebrand moves away from generic island marketing to highlight three distinct pillars:

Nature & Adventure: Spotlighting La Soufrière, lush rainforest hiking trails, and abundant waterfalls through editorial placements and local photography sourced via the SVGTA’s “Lens” creative program.

Marine Paradise: Promoting the destination’s 32 islands and cays and its nearly 40% market share in Eastern Caribbean sailing through the Bequia Easter Regatta and the archipelago-wide Sailing Nation event.

Culture & Celebration: Elevating native traditions, including the Nine Mornings festival, community food culture, and the upcoming 50th anniversary of Vincy Mas.

Director of Marketing Alex Banwell noted that modern international visitors are increasingly prioritizing genuine cultural immersion over artificial VIP settings.

Banwell shared an example of a prominent international influencer traveling with 30 people who expressed a desire to bypass VIP bottle service in favor of attending a local goat water cookout, riding public vans, playing mass with paint and powder, eating iguana, and taking a river bath.

To prepare the destination for increased arrivals, the SVGTA has mobilized the Kingstown Enhancement Project, coordinating street cleaning, power-washing of buildings, walkway clearances, and new traffic markings across the capital. Concurrently, infrastructure upgrades are underway through a cruise terminal contract with Global Ports Holding (GPH) and airport improvements on Union Island.

“Our job at the tourism authority is bums on seats and money out of pocket into the local economy,” London summarized. “The logo is just a stamp—the real work is the story and the campaigns we take to the world”.
