 Readers, writers, and cultural travelers from across the region are descending on the British Virgin Islands this week as the annual BVI Lit Fest officially returns from November 5 to 8, 2026.

Hosted by H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) under the evocative theme “Mouth Open, Story Jump Out,” the four-day cultural festival pairs incisive author discussions and electrifying live poetry with local culinary traditions, music, and dramatic island backdrops across Tortola and Beef Island.

“We want this festival to feel like a gathering of the whole region,” said Dr. Richard Georges, President of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. “Writers from across the Caribbean are coming to the British Virgin Islands to share their work, and we want readers from across the Caribbean to come and listen.”

The 2026 festival convenes an acclaimed slate of international and regional literary talent. Featured guest authors include:

  • Etaf Rum, bestselling novelist exploring identity, culture, and womanhood;
  • Claire Adam, acclaimed Trinidadian author; and
  • Ingrid Persaud, award-winning Costa Prize winner.

Dynamic poetry performances and readings will feature prominent poets Anthony Joseph, Safiyya Chance, Johanna Gibson, and Yara Liceaga.

The festival anchors around four marquee evening and daytime gatherings spanning world-class beachfront and estate settings:

Writers’ Welcome Reception (Thursday, November 5 | 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
The festival opens at the picturesque Allamanda Estate on Beef Island, offering guests their first opportunity to mingle with visiting authors and fellow attendees ($100).

Sunset Stories (Friday, November 6 | 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
Set against the waters of Tortola at Brandywine Estate Restaurant, Friday evening blends intimate literary conversations with fine dining and ocean sunsets ($100).

Light A Fire: Poets’ Showcase (Saturday, November 7 | 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
Hosted by performance artist Derron Sandy at the lively Loose Mongoose on Beef Island, this high-energy showcase features spoken word, lyricism, and verse under the stars ($100).

Book Brunch (Sunday, November 8 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
Hosted by Marsha Massiah at 1748 Restaurant, Long Bay Beach Resort in Tortola, the grand finale celebrates literature alongside Caribbean cuisine ($115). In addition to closing discussions, the brunch will host the formal announcement of the 2026 Writing Competition winners and unveil the official theme for BVI Lit Fest 2027.

    Beyond evening performances, Saturday, November 7 features an extensive series of intensive writing workshops ($30 each) led by industry professionals. Sessions cover six dedicated disciplines:

    • Poetry
    • Journalism
