Atiba Wiseman, a 32-year-old unemployed male from Redemption Sharpes has been arrested and charged by the Police at Calliaqua for the offence of having in his possession an imitation firearm at Indian Bay on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017.
Wiseman was on Friday, September 29th escorted to the Serious Offences Court and pleaded guilty to the charge before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne.
The Court heard that on the date in question police were on mobile patrol in the Indian Bay area when the defendant who was of interest to the police was seen walking on the public road with a knapsack on his back. He was reportedly approached by the cops who requested to search his knapsack which led to the discovery of the firearm.
In mitigation, Wiseman told the Magistrate that he left his home to go to the beach and while walking he found the gun on the road.
The Magistrate said that she had doubt that he spoke the truth and as a result, a jail term of one year was handed down to him.
He was also sentenced to an additional 9 months imprisonment at the Belle Isle Correctional Facility for breach of 9 months suspended sentence that was given to him recently for breach of a Family Court Restraining Order not to enter his mother’s home at Redemption Sharpes.
