Vincentians asked to consume more locally produced foods

Vincentians are being urged to consume more locally produced foods. This as the Nutrition Department within the Ministry of Health joins the global community in observing World Diabetes Day – which will be commemorated on November 14th.

Rosemary Muckett Community Nutrition Officer within the Department of Health said that non-communicable diseases are the number one causes of death in the Nation.

The annual mortality rate per 100,000 people from non-communicable diseases in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has increased by 8.0% since 1990, an average of 0.3% a year.

For men, the deadliness of non-communicable diseases in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines peaks at age 80+. It kills men at the lowest rate at age 5-9.

Women are killed at the highest rate from non-communicable diseases in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at age 80+. It was least deadly to women at age 5-9.
