SVG Mother Nature’s Paradise

2 Min Read

SVG continues to lead in the vanguard of conservation in the hemisphere. On 4th November, the efforts of this small Caribbean Island will reach a new level.

The ACTP with which the island has a long standing relationship to protect its National Bird will repatriate the first of 3 parrots.

It is the first time in the history of the island that parrots bred on an ex situ conservation programme would be returned to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This takes place in light of the vulnerability of caribbean islands to have their biodiversity destroyed overnight by hurricanes and in some cases volcanic eruption.

The ACTP has a history of working with other countries including Brazil, St. Lucia and Dominica.

Martin Guth of the ACTP in an interview noted that, “the world is always a better place when conservationist work harder to bring about positive changes.”

“The historic event of the return of the parrots later next week, will signal a new dispensation in our nation’s conservation efforts,” noted Minister of Agriculture Hon. Saboto Caesar.

The Minister furthered, “we protect our turtles, the Union Island Gecko, the parrot fish assessment is being done and we have a ban on all glyphosate usage and aerial spraying. SVG is Mother Nature’s Paradise.

Let us protect our blessed nation and there is no better time for us to renew our efforts than as we participate in 12 months of celebration of our national independence – “Renewal at 40.”
