Leeward District SDA Primary School Re-opens its school library. Thanks to Hands Across the Sea in collaboration with Mustique Charitable Foundation.
The Leeward District SDA Primary School made a fresh start by opening its newly upgraded library on Friday 28th February, 2020.
Teachers and students now have a well- organized, colourful and student-friendly library space where they can enjoy reading.
The school had lost most of its books during the 2013 flooding of the Buccament area, and last year Hands Across the Sea organization came to their assistance with The Mustique Charitable Foundation sponsoring 853 new books.
Several partners in education came to celebrate the occasion. The principal, Mrs Jeaneth Pierre expressed gratitude to God and to Hands Across the Sea for making this possible.
Senior Education Officer, Mrs Joycelyn Blake Browne stressed the importance of reading and also commended the school for doing well in the reading assessments despite their limited resources.
Project Manager of Mustique Charitable, Mrs Dularie encouraged teachers to teach in such a way that the students will be intrigued to read, while Hands Literacy Link, Mrs Enna Bullock praised the staff for the team spirit shown to get the project done.
In his address, the president of the SVG Mission of Seventh Day Adventists, Pastor Dermoth Baptiste thanked the organization for the donation of books and admonished students to build a firm, strong reading foundation by utilizing the library.
