Flash Flood Watch In Effect For SVG

1 Min Read

A FLASH-FLOOD WATCH is in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines Issued: 4:00 pm Sunday, 13th September, 2020

The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) coupled with light wind speeds and day time heating will continue to generate moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines this evening and into tomorrow.

Some stations in the interior of mainland St. Vincent have already recorded significant rainfall accumulations today and there is a possibility of an additional 50mm (approximately 2 inches) with isolated higher amounts in mountainous areas.

Soils in some areas are saturated and some rivers remain inundated, as a result a flash-flood watch is in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 4:00 pm today until 6:00am 14th September 2020.

Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should exercise caution.

A Flood-Watch is issued when conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility of flooding during the watch period.

This flood watch may be upgraded to a warning if conditions warrant.
