Access to the beach at Mount Wynne / Peter’s Hope is public and will remain public even as plans are progressing to have a major private hotel development in the area.
This was made emphatically clear by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves speaking via Telephone on WEFM’s Issue at Hand program on Sunday, October 2nd, 2016.
“Access to the beach at peter’s Hope bay is public and will remain public as are all beaches in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The public will have access to the beach”, Dr. Gonsalves said.

In drawing a parallel with the situation in Canouan over beach access, the Prime Minister indicated that the problem in Canouan is that there is a gated community, through which persons have to pass to access some of the beaches.
“Where you have a direct access to what you have here on a road which is there, it’s very straightforward.
Gonsalves said the problem arises in Canouan because you have a gated community in the northern two-thirds of the island so that the access is still there but the access has to be provided in a way in which you go and they give you the transport from the point of entry and you go to the beach.
But this one you will have a pathway to the beach” the Prime Minister explained.
The resort development project in Canouan was officially established through a 99-year lease, signed in October 1990, with the then New Democratic Party Government, where lands in the north were handed over to investors for development.
