Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Simmons opened the official launch of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ 47th Anniversary of Independence with a call for national prayer, spiritual reflection, and an end to violent crime.
Delivering the invocation at the national flag-raising ceremony, Simmons expressed gratitude for the nation’s blessings over 47 years of self-determination.
He offered prayers for government leaders, specifically petitioning divine wisdom and guidance for Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday and his Cabinet to lead the country forward. He also prayed for protection over law enforcement personnel and members of the general public.
Addressing current social challenges, Simmons spoke directly about the recent rise of violent crime across the island, praying for peace to permeate the nation.
He urged individuals involved in criminal activities to cease from evil ways, turn away from violence, and embrace mutual love as “our brother’s keeper”.
Simmons concluded by asking that St. Vincent and the Grenadines stand as an example and beacon for other nations, committing the month-long anniversary celebrations into divine hands.
