The heavy burden placed on an already impoverished society with additional taxation reflects the lack of vision and a lack of an understanding of managing in difficult times on the part of the government.
This is according to Parliamentary Representative of West Kingstown the Hon. Daniel Cummings in his address during the 2017 Budget Debate in Parliament on Thursday 9th February.
Cummings said when one looks at the elements of our finances and the avenues from which we derive revenue; agriculture has been allowed to go down over the past 15 years here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
He noted that while other Caribbean countries have utilised Citizenship By Investment programmes, this country has refused to implement such a programme which would enable the government to raise significant revenue without taxing Vincentians.
