On the heels of celebrating its 47th Anniversary as an educational institution, the Adelphi Secondary School continues to make agriculture a priority.
According to Cleo James an educator at the school, there is a chicken farm located on lands belonging to the school.
James said the chickens are raised and then sold to supermarkets across the island and to persons within the community.
The Green House
James said a 72 feet Green House was recently installed in conjunction with the Ministries of Agriculture and National Mobilization.
“We want to start our plant nursery and improve the agriculture program where the students would plant the crops and then sell on a small scale”.
James said the income received would be used to develop the institution in various ways.
The Green House is expected to benefit the institution since it is now entering the school farm modernization project.
The Green House would be equipped with its own irrigation system with water being harvested from the roofs.
A solar pump would be used to distribute the water to the crops.
