To announce his intention to call a general election soon, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged Governor General Sir Rodney Williams to prorogue Parliament.
The proclamation order will be issued by Williams soon. Constitutionally, the election must be held in March 2023.
The date of the general election has not yet been declared by Browne, but Melford Nicholas, the information minister, gave a hint earlier this week that it would be unveiled on Monday when the governing Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has its campaign launch.
Currently, 15 of the 17 seats in Parliament are held by the ABLP.
