The Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department is currently navigating a period of extreme operational strain due to a significant influenza outbreak and a high volume of trauma cases.

To manage the overwhelming influx of patients, management has reassigned specialty doctors and additional staff to accelerate treatment times.

Hospital leadership clarified that reports of patients lying on the floor were likely misinterpretations of low-profile ambulance stretchers used during peak periods.

To ensure high-quality care, officials are urging the public to reserve emergency room visits for life-threatening conditions like strokes or severe respiratory distress.

Despite these challenges, the facility is actively securing more medical equipment and coordinating with 24-hour clinics to alleviate the backlog.
