To ensure the long-term integrity of St Vincent’s avaiation infrastructure and prevent future service degradation, AIA Inc. is initiating essential runway maintenance works at the J.F. Mitchell Airport (JFM) in Bequia.

The J.F. Mitchell Airport will be closed to all flight operations from Friday, February 6, 2026, to Tuesday, February 17, 2026. This specific window has been strategically selected as the minimum required timeframe to execute concentrated technical repairs and ensure the structural resilience of the runway.

Government has allocated $780,000 in the 2026 estimates for this airport.

These works form a vital part of our routine maintenance program and are necessary to ensure the continued safe movement of aircraft serving JFM. AIA management and the Civil Aviation department are working in close collaboration with contractors, airlines, and relevant stakeholders to manage the project footprint safely and efficiently.

AIA Inc. in a release says they understand the impact of this temporary closure and extends its sincere gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation. This short-term inconvenience is a necessary collective contribution to the long-term safety and sustainability of our aviation infrastructure.

The management of Argyle International Airport Inc. will provide further updates as the project progresses toward completion.
