35-year-old Deron Hazel from Paget Farm, Bequia who was remanded into custody pending sentencing by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne has been given a jail term of two years at Her Majesty’s Prison to reflect on his actions.
Hazel was charged for having in his possession of over 1,000gms of cocaine for trafficking on March 9th, 2018.
He was reportedly intercepted near Massy Store at Upper Bay Street by Law Enforcement Officers who acted on a tip-off.
When Hazel appeared before Magistrate Browne on Wednesday, September 26th and was asked what he had to say in mitigation Hazel said that he was very sorry for his action and that he was coming to the Court for the first time.
He also pointed out that he could have entered the guilty plea earlier, but he wanted to see the birth of his third child and further stated that he had some problems where someone had stolen his engine from his boat.
He begged the Court to be lenient with him. He was remanded into custody until Thursday, September 27th for sentencing.
