Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble, has confirmed that computers at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines consulate in New York were wiped clean prior to the current administration taking office.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with members of the Vincentian diaspora in New York, Minister Bramble stated that an official investigation into the incident is actively underway.
The issue was brought to the floor by a town hall attendee who referenced earlier reports of alleged sabotage and erased computer files following the transition to Consul General Patel Matthews.
In response, Minister Bramble affirmed that the wiping of the consulate’s computers was “a fact” and addressed public questions regarding the timeline of the government’s inquiry. He explained that formal investigations take time and rejected suggestions that the absence of immediate public announcements indicated inaction.
“Our government is a government of accountability. It’s a government of transparency, and we will make sure that any discovery of any corruption or anything that existed before will be dealt with appropriately,” Minister Bramble stated.
Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday supported Minister Bramble’s remarks, outlining the administration’s broader, systematic review of public enterprises and state institutions.
The Prime Minister revealed that a special rapid assessment team appointed by the government had completed evaluations of several state entities, uncovering issues that require further investigation.
