- Regional leaders arrive in Guyana for CARICOM meeting
Sunday will mark the start of CARICOM’s forty-sixth regular meeting in Georgetown’s National Cultural Centre.
Dr. Carla Barnett, CARICOM Secretary-General, and Roosevelt Skerrit, former CARICOM Chairman and Dominica Prime Minister, will address the audience.
Heads of Government will meet with Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and other high-level visitors.
Business sessions will discuss the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and the fulfilment of the 45th Regular Meeting’s July mandate for free mobility of all community nationals by March 31, 2024.
As lead Head of Government for Agriculture and Food and Nutrition Security in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet, the Chairman Dr Irfaan Ali will brief the gathering on the community’s 25 by 2025 plan to reduce food imports and boost intra-regional commerce.
Climate change and climate financing; regional security, including Haiti and border issues; regional transport; financial matters, including CVDF replenishment; global and hemispheric issues, including the Middle East; reparations; and the 2024 ICC Men’s T-20 Cricket World Cup will be discussed.
