- British Airways steward, 52, dies in front of passengers on plane due to take off from Heathrow
A British Airways steward has died in front of passengers while waiting for take-off from London Heathrow Airport. A British Airways crew member, believed to be aged 52, died in front of passengers ahead of a flight from London.
The BA flight attendant is believed to have collapsed while on duty in front of passengers as the plane was about to take off for Hong Kong. The pilot requested medical help immediately – and a passenger reportedly came forward to try and help.
But the steward reportedly died, it has been reported on Wednesday (January 3). The doors on BA Flight 32 had already been locked and the pilot had asked for permission to push-back and head onto the runway when the person is believed to have fallen to the floor to the shock of passengers.
Emergency services quickly came on board the plane but the person could not be resuscitated. The flight that was leaving on New Year’s Eve (December 31) was cancelled due to the medical emergency, reports today have stated.
A second BA steward, also 52, died in the US on December 23. After his sudden death the flight from Newark to London Heathrow was cancelled, with passengers re-booked onto later flights. Colleagues had raised the alarm when he had failed to report for duty and were all flown home as passengers as they grieved.
The dead cabin crew worker had been found dead in his hotel room, and died down-route during a stopover between flights. A source said: “Crew are frantic. These were two healthy people who suddenly dropped dead. There were no reported underlying health issues.
“The crew were family men, and leave devastated families in shock and disbelief.” They went on: “It has been a traumatic festive period for BA’s flying team. Everyone is deeply upset.”
