On September 11, 2026, police arrested and charged Desroy Simmons, a 42-year-old farmer of Buccament, with possession of a controlled drug, drug trafficking, and attempting to import a controlled drug.
Investigations revealed that on September 10, 2026, the accused allegedly had in his possession nine hundred and thirty-seven (937) grams of cannabis with the intent to supply it to another.
He was also charged with having in his possession nine hundred and thirty-seven (937) grams of cannabis for the purpose of drug trafficking.
Lastly, Simmons was charged with attempting to import nine hundred and thirty-seven (937) grams of cannabis.
The offences were committed at the Kingstown Port. Simmons appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate Court on September 14, 2026, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was granted composite bail in the sum of $4,500.00 ECC with one surety and ordered to report to the Layou Police Station every Tuesday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Stop notices were placed at all ports of entry and exit and he was also ordered to seek the court’s permission if he wishes to leave the state. The matters were adjourned and transferred to the Serious Offences Court for September 22, 2026.
