Budget does nothing to address some areas of critical importance for SVG

1 Min Read

Opposition Leader the Hon. Dr. Godwin Friday has said the 2017 budget only serves to add more taxes upon the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and for that reason he cannot support this budget.

Addressing Parliament yesterday in response to the 2017 Budget Presentation, Dr. Friday said this year’s budget does nothing to address some of the areas of critical importance here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

He noted that the budget should not only give a report on the economy but also set out what the government intends to do about areas such as growth job creation.

Dr. Friday added that while the budget presentation addressed certain areas, critical areas such as the Buccament Bay Resort, the row at the Ottley Hall Shipyard and Mariana, as well as issues at Canouan were not addressed.

He further called on the government to be transparent with the Argyle International Airport project by disclosing a full and comprehensive report on the AIA.
