Having listened to the complaints of the General Public with regard to the issue of loud musical instrument being played by owners and drivers of motor vehicles here, the Traffic Department of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has begun to crack down on offenders.
On Friday, August 24th, 2018, Glaston Browne, a 31-year-old resident of Campden Park was arrested and charged with four (4) traffic-related offences in the vicinity of Melville Street in capital Kingstown.
He was accused of driving a motor vehicle on the date in question and while doing so, played loud music without the consent of the Commissioner of Police, driving the said vehicle without wearing his seatbelt, failing to give his name and address to a police officer dressed in uniform and failing to present his driver’s license when asked to do so.
He was escorted to the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on the said date before Senior Magistrate, Ricky Burnette, facing the charges to which he pleaded Guilty.
As a result, the Magistrate adjourned sentencing to Wednesday, August 29th, 2018, stating that its a topical issue and the public has interest and that he would want to facilitate the attendance of Police Inspector, Henry Providence.
Having appeared in court today, Inspector Providence told the Court that he is thankful to the motor vehicle users who have begun to comply with the regulations and advised that they continue in such vain.
A Fine of One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($1,250.00) was imposed upon Browne to be paid by October 15, 2018. In default, a one-month jail term will be imposed.
