- Mottley, Canadian PM discuss Haiti crisis
Justin Trudeau and Mia Mottley have been discussing Haiti’s predicament.
The Canadian Prime Minister’s office said: “The leaders expressed their deep concern over the increasing gang violence and turbulence that the country is experiencing. They agreed that sending the UN-authorized Multinational Security Support mission to support Haitian National Police efforts to improve civilian security was urgent. Trudeau thanked Barbados for contributing security troops and said Canada will continue to work with Barbados, Kenya, and other partners to succeed.
The prime ministers also discussed CARICOM’s role in promoting inclusive political discourse for a Haitian-led crisis solution. The leaders stressed the necessity for an inclusive political consensus to ensure free and fair general elections and democratic order in Haiti.
Trudeau and Mottley reaffirmed Canada-Barbados ties and pledged to stay in touch as Haiti’s situation evolves.
