Canadian immigration officials are in SVG for the next few days.
The government of Canada is assisting islands providing workers for the Canadian Farmers Programme by sending Canadian immigration officials to those islands to ensure the convenient processing of bio-metrics for farm workers.
All farm workers returning to the programme must complete special fingerprinting and photo requested by the new biometrics process.
The presence of the Canadian Officials in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will help immensely, since all workers will not have to travel to Barbados or Trinidad and Tobago to complete their biometrics.
Some workers have already concluded their bio-metrics in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. An additional 200 are expected to be interviewed in SVG by Canadian Officials.
This matter is being addressed by all islands on the OECS farm workers programme.
Over the last 2 weeks, the Department of Labour completed the uploading of data so that workers would be able to complete their biometrics.
The Labour Department in SVG has come in for high praises from regional officials for the manner in which it continues to efficiently handle the new process.
