- CARDI SUPPORTS SVG SWEET POTATO RESEARCH PROJECT
The Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute is conducting a sweet potato research study in St. Vincent (SVG).
Donowa Jackson, Cardi’s local agent, said the project, which aims to boost sweet potato output, is starting to provide positive results.
His comments occurred during an API visit to the Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute’s field office at Orange Hill, where considerable sweet potato research is taking place.
The research is being done as part of the Caribbean Development Bank-funded Regional Sweet Potato Value Chain Enhancement and Technology Transfer Project.
According to Jackson, sweet potato farming in the area confronts numerous obstacles, and the project aims to bring new varieties and strategies to tackle these challenges, which include pest impacts and climate change.
Jackson stated that, while study is still ongoing, the Jackson and Rasta vine varieties have been performing well with minimal pest impact.
He stated that the CARDI’s recommended management strategies contributed to the positive outcome.
