The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has launched forty days of activities to join countries across the globe in the centennial celebrations of Nelson Mandela – his life and legacy. The launch ceremony was held yesterday, Monday 11th June, 2018 at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce in Kingstown.

The feature presentation was done by the Honourable Luke Browne, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment. During his presentation, he evoked an atmosphere of momentousness as he shared on the significance of Nelson Mandela’s contributions to South Africa and the world. He also urged citizens to value the lessons of the international icon in their civic engagement.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce, Mrs. Sandy Peters-Phillips shared an overview of the activities that will be held over the next forty days and spearheaded by an inter-ministerial committee comprised of the Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation, Ecclesiastical Affairs and Information, the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce.

All Government Ministries and Agencies will participate in the activities. The private sector is invited to participate, as well as the general public, churches, religious organisations, community groups and youth organisations.
