The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation has dubbed December the month of female football to eliminate the stigma of women playing football.
SVGFF President, Marvin Fraser explained the month’s activities will include park matches in preparation for the 2019 Female Championships.
There will also be a Female Fun Day and Female School Football Festival where 15 secondary schools across the country are expected to participate.
He expressed gratitude to CIBC First Caribbean International bank which has provided financial support that will help fund the events scheduled during the month of December.
“It’s about time we kick down those gender barriers. We express our commitment to promoting healthy living as well as equality and this is a perfect combination to support and get involved in both causes.
Through the SVGFF these female athletes can stand tall through joint values of fairness, good performance, respect, partnership and team spirit – values which are also shared by CIBC FirstCaribbean”, said Country Head Shelly Ann Samuel.
Continuing to support athletes and sporting endeavours, the bank also supported the Stephanie Browne Primary School sports programme by helping the school to purchase travel uniforms and sporting equipment for their athletes.
Principal Lorette Coy-James thanked the bank for its support adding that it helps each athlete to reach his or her highest potential.
Mrs. Samuel said the bank was “very happy” to support the young athletes noting that participation in sports promotes discipline and co-operation, fosters leadership skills and underscores the value of teamwork.
