Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, the current governor of Anguilla, will step down from her position in order to lead the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2019.
Daniel-Selvaratnam’s -relocation was revealed by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office on Thursday.
In June 2023, she will succeed Governor Nigel Dakin.
Daniel-Selvaratnam will be the first woman to hold the position of governor without being appointed temporarily. Women will also hold the governor and vice governor positions for the first time.
Having accepted the new position, Daniel-Selvaratnam stated her pleasure about it.
“It is an honour for me to serve as the Turks and Caicos Islands’ next governor. In June 2023, I’ll start in this role. Until then, I shall continue to give the people of Anguilla my all. Along with a new Governor, I am sure that Anguilla will continue to grow stronger. I’m excited to get to know and help the Turks and Caicos Islanders,” she stated.
The departing governor praised the unprecedented appointment of Daniel-Selvaratnam.
