Diabetes Concern In Children

Health Officials here have expressed concern regarding the issue of increased childhood obesity in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The concern was raised by Coordinator of Non Communicable Diseases in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment- Beverley Liverpool, as this country joined the global community to observe World Health Day, on April 7th, under the theme “Step Up – Beat Diabetes”

She said statistics also show that the prevalence of Diabetes has been increasing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and efforts must be made to halt the rise in this disease.

Sister Liverpool said Diabetes is now ranked the third leading cause of death in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
